An AFMA-nominated songwriter and inimitable poet, Daniel J Townsend has developed a reputation as one of Australia’s most engaging and inspiring folk performers.

The first songwriter in the world to release an album as a podcast (and the only artist to write a musical about Tassie’s Midland Highway), he has been described as having “a head full of stories, a soul old enough to have lived them and a heart young enough to believe in their power to move us” (MusicSA).

He has performed at folk festivals all over the country, including The National, Nannup, Darwin, Major’s Creek, Healesville, Fleurieu and Cygnet. He is currently recording a new album with renowned mandolin player and producer, Luke Plumb.

The Franklin Folk Club at the Franklin Palais in the stunning Huon Valley is a monthly showcase of Tasmanian Folk music managed by Way Down South Arts
