Location
Willie Smith's Apple Shed, 2064 Huon Highway, Grove

In this their 11th year, the Huon Valley Mid-Winter Festival is embarking on a time to reflect on winter’s past and old. A time of contemplation, as an emblazoned Big Willie burns.

Mud, embers, art and laughter, stomping boots and warming cider. Apple trees wassailed by the Morris dancing, a community of revellers romancing.

Join with us in the depths of our mid-winter for the last toast, before we hang up our tatters and bang our pots and pans. For the final time we Wassail thee old apple tree dancing hand in hand!

The Huon Valley Mid-Winter Festival is all about celebrating the region’s apple-picking history and at its core is the wassail: the ages-old tradition of scaring evil spirits from the orchard to bring on a bumper crop.

All the festival’s much-loved traditions make a comeback including the Burning Man, Tassie’s best folk-funk bands, the coveted costume competition, tales tall and true from Tassie’s best storytellers and of course, the Wassail.

So get ready to sing with us to the apple trees, dress in pagan finery, bang pots and pans, and let go of any negative energy to make way for the new!
