‘Way Down South’ is a premiere street food, bar and live music event.

A creative infusion conceived by the Hot Potato Band director, Simon Ghali (TIHISB Productions) and CEO + founder Alice Toner of Way Down South Arts with an aim to bring mainland and Huon Valley musicians together for a party like no other!

This inaugural event features Sydney’s powerhouse brass collective and Huon Valley Mid-Winter Festival favourites, Hot Potato Band along with special guests from around the Hobart and Huon Valley regions.

Grab your lover, mother, friend or other and join us at the Palais Theatre, Franklin for an evening of laughter, dancing and singing. All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult/guardian.

Hot Potato Band’s larger-than-life brass collective is a breath of fresh air, setting a new bar for energetic and interactive musical performances. Finding home in Sydney, Australia, their positive coastal energy pushes euphoric boundaries in their bold quest to reignite acoustic instrumentation.

The band’s unique sound is built on the backs of three drummers, a sousaphone and five horns that cover catchy chorus lines, providing a beautiful harmonic cloud for Ben (vocalist) to float above. HPB is un-bound by genres, stages and audiences.

They are re-inventive of the traditional New Orleans brass band as a modern-day dance machine and visual spectacle for all demographics with a strong sense of pride for their fun-loving, organic, and quirky musical nature.

Sponsored by Cygnet Folk Festival, Frank’s Cider, Home Hill Winery and Juicy Isle (Hartz)
