About our group:
Friends of Randalls Bay (FORB) was formed in 1997 by locals, residents and shack owners to protect native vegetation along Williams Road by extending the protective barriers. Since then our group has continued to grow and develop the Randalls Bay surrounds. In 2003 Max and Bev Thomas gifted land to State Reserves. With funding support and support from Parks and Wildlife we developed this land into the Echo Sugarloaf Walking track. This was done in two stages and the loop was finally completed in 2020. Our group holds working bees on track maintenance and general weeding, making this walk one of the most popular walks in Southern Tasmania.
In 2018 the opportunity arose for our group to purchase the Quarry Reserve. This is an area of 65 acres. We were able to do this by crowd funding and from generous donations. FORB then sought to have a covenant placed on this land, and land donated to FORB by Paul Thomas. This has ensured a green belt of natural habitat to run along side of Randalls Bay Beach. Inside the quarry there are walking tracks that meander past the Back Gum protected species and other wonderful flora. Our members maintain this beautiful natural reserve.
Over the last 12 months we have worked at improving the reserve land alongside of Mickeys Beach. With incredibly committed members this area is revegetating and flourishing.
For walks and area information there is signage with a map near the BBQ area. Dogs on leads are welcome in the Quarry Reserve and our walk to Mickeys Beach (please stay on the tracks). Dogs are not permitted on the Echo Sugarloaf Reserve.
When visiting please enjoy, respect, and look after this beautiful area, this is the traditional land of the Mellukerdee people and this is land we are now all “caretakers” of.
